Michael C. Hammer
Michael Charles Hammer is one of the
founders of the management theory of
Business process reengineering (BPR).

Time Magazine named Michael Hammer as
one of Americas 25 most influential individuals. He attended
Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he earned his SB in 1968,
his masters in 1970 and finally his Ph.D. in electrical engineering and
computer sciences by 1973.
Though an engineer by training, Hammers true vocation became clear when
he applied himself to the field of business management. Reputed to be
obsessed with the nuts and bolts of Business Hammer developed the
concept of business reengineering, where businesses identify their core
processes and set about making them leaner and more efficient. This
process offers organisations a clean sheet of paper and an opportunity
to change antiquated systems or processes that may have always been done
in a traditional way. Hammer rigorously describes his theories within
the pages of his 1993 publication, and international bestseller
Re-engineering the Corporation: A manifesto for business revolution
(co-authored by James
Champy) which encapsulated the minds of the business community,
remaining within the New York Times bestseller list for over a year.
Hammer has since published 3 more successful books, founded and directed
various high technology companies and currently the president of Hammer
and Company (www.hammerandco.com) a business education and research
organisation that focuses on offering companies sustainable improvements
to performance through redesign.
Dr. Hammer is the author of four books,
including the international best-seller "Reengineering the Corporation",
the most important business book of the 1990s. His latest book is "The
Agenda: What Every Business Must Do to Dominate the Decade". His
articles have appeared in periodicals from Harvard Business Review to
The Economist, and his work has been featured in every major business
publication.
An engineer by training, Dr. Hammer focuses on the operational nuts and
bolts of business; his work is relentlessly pragmatic and immediately
relevant. Dr. Hammer was formerly a professor of computer science at the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and he is a founder and director
of several high technology companies. He was named by Time Magazine to
its first list of America's twenty-five most influential individuals.
